The gradual Release of Responsibility Instructional Model (GRR) developed by Educational Bridge and integrated into all of our teaching materials consists of the following four key teaching steps:
- Teacher Modeling and Demonstration
- Guided Practice
- Independent Student Practice
- Application to Reading
All Educational Bridge workshops are designed to benefit teachers, specialists, special educators, and all educators who teach reading to students in grades K-8.
FastMapping ™ for Comprehension
Teachers will learn the recent research in comprehension instruction which has shown that a minimum of six consecutive and concentrated in-depth mental experiences applying one major comprehension strategy produce the greatest immediate and long-term student growth. Teachers will learn how to teach comprehension strategies commonly found on state and high stakes assessments.
See How They Think ™: The Thinking Process of Good Readers
This workshop is designed to increase the ability of teachers to fluently introduce each of the key comprehension strategies to students. In one short lesson teachers are able to jumpstart student understanding of when, why, and how to apply each strategy.
Primary Developing Readers, Grades K-2
Teachers will learn how to effectively introduce and practice key comprehension strategies in PDR as part of their regular daily reading program. The four-step Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) Instructional Model is presented and each step is discussed and practiced using primary materials.
Developing Readers, Grades 3-6
Teachers will learn how to teach comprehension strategies commonly found on state and high stakes assessments.
Teaching and Assessing Comprehension Strategies
The Teaching and Assessing Comprehension Strategies (TACS) teacher resource guide presents gradually released, guided practice lessons for each of the key comprehension strategies found on most state assessments. Teachers will learn effective guided practice lesson structures and methods when working with students who struggle with the common comprehension strategies such as main idea, inferences, cause/effect, character traits, and many others. A total of 15 comprehension strategies are presented in the third grade TACS and 25 in the fourth and fifth grade teacher resource.
